I've been extraordinarily lucky: Traveling to more than 50 countries, guiding for 10 years in Alaska and Oregon, living in Central Asia and experiencing quite a bit along the way. All while managing to develop a few good stories. In between teaching, a 2 year old and a wife in grad school - I also started a new direction by starting a career in art. Here is art, travels and other aspects of my life.

Had to go back for more - Owyhee part II

I could not resist more opportunity for more fish. So Amy, Sydney and I met Britt and Tim at the Owyhee for a picnic and a chance to get a few more fish. Was not red-hot, but it was still decent.

It was fun to take Sydney out for her first fishing outing.

More Owyhee Big Trout - March is the time to hit the Owyhee

Andrew Hunter and I headed out to the Owyhee yesterday afternoon to get out of Boise on a beautiful spring day. As we drove up to the first spot I was quickly surmising it had the potential to be a great day. There were fish rising everywhere and a very prolific hatch. Within minutes of Andrew's first cast he hooked up with this beast. A true Owyhee gem. Measuring at 24 inches - it was a healthy hog - a bit different than the usual "snakey" Owyhee big fish. The color was clearly the most unique I've seen. I watched this fish from the bank for a few minutes before Andrew got the chance to cast to it. It was like a neon sign in the river. After he landed the fish and we got a few photos - the Owyhee did its usual temperamental activity - and the fish turned off. Not because we stirred the fish in the hole - the fish we had just observed up and down the river going nuts went down. No explanation. We hit a another little spike in activity and landed another nice fish. So the word to the wise... when the fish are going nuts, hammer them.

Andrew is getting better at the guide pose - but still a little bit on the "greasy mits" side

More Sydney Photos - (dorky proud parents.... that is my excuse)

Continuing our dorky and annoying parent role - more photos of Sydney

Sydney sporting the hat her uncle made for her. She is ready to hit the trap line and run a snowmachine.

Her first bath - she was a little wigged out at first and then quickly loved it.

Bright eyes - she loves to look around

Guide pose - pushing eight pounds - a keeper.

This was a few weeks ago - but for comparison sake - she has has gained 2 - 3 pounds already so looking at this is pretty strange.
