I've been extraordinarily lucky: Traveling to more than 50 countries, guiding for 10 years in Alaska and Oregon, living in Central Asia and experiencing quite a bit along the way. All while managing to develop a few good stories. In between teaching, a 2 year old and a wife in grad school - I also started a new direction by starting a career in art. Here is art, travels and other aspects of my life.

Boulder Mountain Tour

I decided to attempt the Boulder Mountain Tour again this year. After a relatively successful first try last year, I was interested in doing it again, but Cheeto's arrival made me think I was not going to be able to make the trip - but after Amy's insistence, I registered. I was comfortable knowing we were staying with Travis and Cortney - thus Cort could delivery the baby at any moment if needed. With only a little training (I think I was on the skinny skis only 4-5 times this year) we headed up for the race.

As always, waxing was a big question mark, but Travis and I nailed it. We had a beautiful day - started off about 20 at the start and was well above freezing by the end. The sun was out the whole time. A great day to race.

The field was a little more aggressive than last year and I had to fight my way to the front of the pack for the first 5 km. After about 10 km the field spread out and I was able to get into a rhythm. Although I was doing well, I did not push myself as hard as I could. Although I was 18 minutes faster than last year, I wish I pushed a bit harder throughout. I think I was 6th in my wave. (I was 3rd last year).

Overall, without much training or prep I am pretty happy about the race. I am also pleased we made it up and back from Ketchum with no unplanned c-section by Cortney up at the St.Lukes in Hailey

Pushing it into the finish after 30 kms

Cortney with a bit more expertise and style at the same point finishing up the race

Speed demon Travis ripping around the corner at 10km - Travis finished with a sub 1:30 time. Pretty impressive.

Anika might of finished faster than me - or it won't be long. Post race - Cheeto behaved and stayed put, so it was a successful weekend
