I've been extraordinarily lucky: Traveling to more than 50 countries, guiding for 10 years in Alaska and Oregon, living in Central Asia and experiencing quite a bit along the way. All while managing to develop a few good stories. In between teaching, a 2 year old and a wife in grad school - I also started a new direction by starting a career in art. Here is art, travels and other aspects of my life.

Four River Days with Seventh Graders - the John Day River

Cathedral Rock
Yaro at the helm. After a few days of manning the oars, he became quite an expert. I can say I was able to nearly sleep with him rowing. Way to go Yaro!
As you can see it was a high-stress trip for all participants.
Yaro and Lucas actually graduated to the big time when they got to row the gear boat.

Rough existence on the river. Our dining room table with Cathedral Rock in the background. It was tough to be us.
By the last night kids were no longer afraid of snakes, scorpions or mountain lions, so they slept outside and got their first glimpses of satellites and star gazing.
Soon-to-be river guide, and the first Ukrainian to row the John Day: Yaro
The only clouds on an otherwise hot and beautiful river trip
