I've been extraordinarily lucky: Traveling to more than 50 countries, guiding for 10 years in Alaska and Oregon, living in Central Asia and experiencing quite a bit along the way. All while managing to develop a few good stories. In between teaching, a 2 year old and a wife in grad school - I also started a new direction by starting a career in art. Here is art, travels and other aspects of my life.

Hells Canyon Memorial Day Weekend

Yet another great trip on a river. Originally thinking we would not a permit in May we planned a Memorial Day float on Hells Canyon. About three weeks before leaving we found out we needed a permit. Amy was fortunate enough to score a permit for the day we originally planned for. What luck.

We had a menagerie of friends from Boise and Bend meet up and head down the river. 16 people brought together by a river trip. Four days later there were lots of laughs, a little excitement and lots of fun.
Amy, Goose and Cayenne doing what we love to do
The Trout Slayer doing what he spends most of the trip doing, looking for fish. Atta Boy!
Sunny one minute.....
Camp life and Canyon Creek, roughing it as usual

And raining the next.... Parawing central makes life bearable

Post Granite Rapids. All made it through successfully, but man it was big! 27,000 cfs.

Nat and MJ on a hike above Johnson Bar.

Something no one ever wants to do or be seen doing. Shad bilging out his box after flipping in Wild Sheep Rapids. I'll give him credit, he lost his oar and rowed the majority long before he flipped.

12,000 cfs fluctuations on a nightly basis left the boats high and dry each morning.
Gooser keeping an eye on the river ahead

Amy at the helm.

Amazingly green this time of year. In a month or two it will be brown, very brown.

Johnson Bar. In between rain bursts. Hot and sunny when we arrived, rainy at dinner, clear at night and then raining for breakfast.

Who said Hall and Oats (and Shad) are no longer cool?
Skirting a rainstorm - lots of them up river and down river, and occasionally on us
The famous picture spot at the end of the trip. 16 people, all smiling - a successful trip and a great group.
